The DATA Deluge
Today, I read an interesting article in the Economist about the Data Deluge...

We all know data. Deluge is basically the 'to fill quickly beyond capacity'
In 2005 mankind created around 150 exabytes of data.
Today, it has become 1200 exabytes
Now 1 exabyte is 100 billion GB
Awesome right,
Today this data deluge is affecting every aspect of our life.
This increase has great capacity for good as long as we know when to put a stop to it and when to encourage it.
I'll site some examples.
Today when we see the advertisement of x commodity on television, it always has a theme o it. That theme is a result of this data deluge.
Today some or almost all firms have switched to ERP from the normal books of accounts. Because the data is too much to maintain and analyse.
Using the data the credit card companies are able to identify the frauds that take place.
But there are bads to this DATA Deluge also,
Ex: Identity Thefts :
Facebook and Orkut And Linkdn Accounts Hacked And Copied By People.
Disks Full of Social Security Data Has Gone Missing.
Paypal Accounts are hacked.
But still, with all the negative impacts of data deluge...the positives keep on increasing everyday
Linking of the Police and Security Network (IBM)
Hospital And Healthcare Databases and Monitoring Systems
etc...
